Sino-US Global Logistics Institute （SUGLI）of Shanghai Jiaotong University was established in October 2005 and has received support from The National Development and Reform Commission, The Ministry of Transport, The Shanghai Municipal People's Government, The Hong Kong Dong's Charity Foundation, The US Department of Commerce, and The Georgia State Government.

The Institute is an independent platform-based logistics research institution directly under Shanghai Jiaotong University. The Institute is a cross-disciplinary platform of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and is affiliated to the Antai College of Economics and Management. The research purpose of the institute is to rely on the comprehensive advantages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's management science, mechanical engineering (industrial engineering), computer science and technology, and transportation engineering (international shipping) and other advantageous disciplines, cultivate international, high-level, innovative senior logistics professionals, create an international platform for modern logistics scientific research and technology development; provide intellectual and scientific support to promote the development of China's logistics industry, and become a think tank for government and industry policy research and consulting.

Under the new historical circumstances, the background of Industry 4.0, Intelligent Manufacturing, "Made in China 2025" and the development of modern service industries, and the new information technology conditions such as Internet of Things, big data, mobile Internet, cloud technology and artificial intelligence ,SUGLI is deeply rooted in China's engineering system management practices, addresses major national and industry needs, solves major management problems, and make a major industry influence. In the field of logistics, we will study new issues, develop new tools and platforms, and promote high-level applications, while tracking international frontier logistics and other related research. In the meantime, relying on the strong engineering, management, and medical advantages of SJTU, the institute will expand into a broader field of engineering systems management, including intelligent manufacturing management and manufacturing. Service (including intelligent manufacturing logistics), medical health service engineering, engineering system big data analysis and intelligent decision-making.

The research team of the institute consists of 23 full-time researchers and some part-time researchers from other colleges. The 23 full-time researchers include 13 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 6 associate professors, and 3 assistant research fellows. Part-time researchers are from Antai College of Economics & Management, The School of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Civil Engineering, the School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering, and The School of Mechanical Engineering.

In terms of scientific research, the Institute meets the needs of national and local construction development, gives full play to the advantages of the school's science and engineering disciplines, focuses on research in the following areas, and gradually forms features and influence:

Shipping logistics aims building multimodal transport intelligence laboratories based on international shipping big data analysis and international multimodal transport network optimization to form international influence;

Manufacturing logistics and supply chain management is based on the integrated study of supply chain and logistics models in different countries' automotive manufacturing industries, and is the most influential research institution in the field of automotive logistics;

Intelligent logistics interdisciplinary collaborative research platform, carry out intelligent distribution and optimization algorithm research aimed at E-commerce logistics unmanned vehicle distribution technology breakthrough and industry-university research platform;

Sustainable logistics and supply chain management face the major practical needs of the national ecological civilization construction for logistics and supply chain, relying on the

National Natural Science Foundation's key projects to form research characteristics and maintain international academic leading position;

Regional logistics and urban logistics are based on the “One Belt and One Road” initiative, which China is currently advancing and the rapid development of, logistics parks and urban distribution A lot of research work has been carried out by SUGLI on planning and operating in the logistics park, site selection and operation optimization of consolidation center of CHINA RAILWAY Express, and the urban distribution center.

More than 200 students are graduated with the degree of the Master and Ph.D. of Management Science and Engineering, and Master of Logistics Engineering . The graduates have the most promising employment prospects, and their employees are mainly state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises and world-famous enterprises, governmental departments, studying abroad, and self-employment.

Nearly 20 outstanding scholars have been engaged in postdoctoral research at the Sino-US Global Logistics Institute (Management Science and Engineering Mobile Station), of which 9 have already left the station, including 2 foreign postdoctoral fellows.
